We need your help this Saturday! Join Peta and the Fund for Horses Saturday, May 17, 2008, for a peaceful demonstration.
Following the death of horse Eight Belles at last weekend’s Kentucky Derby, we will be holding a demonstration outside the Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore before the Preakness Stakes.
Please join PETA staffers, Fund members and local activists for a demonstration against cruel horse racing practices. Thoroughbreds are raced too young and too often on hard dirt-track surfaces and are whipped viciously as they come down the stretch. Most racehorses end up broken down and cast off for someone else to care for or are sent to slaughter.
PETA is calling for a number of measures to reform this cruelty that masquerades as sport. With global attention raging over Eight Belles’ death, now is the time to speak up for horses who are viciously whipped, broken, and slaughtered for profit. We need a huge presence to send a strong message that we won’t stand by while young horses die.
