In a stunning development at the BLM’s Wild Horse Advisory Board Meeting today [March 10, 2011] in Phoenix, the BLM’s Dean Bolstad announced that because the agency did not receive the necessary appropriations, it had been forced to cancel all of the wild horse and burro roundups it planned to conduct through the rest of the fiscal year, which ends on September 30th, 2011.

A total of 4536 horses and 150 burros who had been destined for capture in 18 Herd Management Areas throughout seven western states will now remain free, at least for the next six and a half months. Bolstad said that BLM may conduct three relatively small roundups on behalf of the U.S. Forest Service, with monies from that agency’s budget.

  1. Thank you to all our representatives in Congress that had the common sense needed to end this waste and to everyone else who has put so much effort into finally cutting off the BLM’s slush fund. It all came together finally. Without such effort, this might have continued until every last horse was rounded up.

  2. BEFORE WE ALL GET SO HAPPY I THINK YOU SHOULD READ THE “TEXAS MUSTANG PROJECT” REPORTS THAT CAME OUT TODAY. IT LOOKS LIKE THE BLM LIED AGAIN REAL BAD.

    • Hello, Shirley. Of course you are right about being cautious and not counting our horses . . . . But I don’t think anyone here believes anything that the BLM says. It is always wait and see what really happens, which keeps advocates tied up. We are going through with our campaigns regardless of what the BLM spouts.

    • Shirley , where can I read those reports ? Please send me the link. Thanks a lot.

  3. Lets continue to sign and send to members of Congress the IMPEACH ABBEY documents PLEASE!
I do not believe that either Abbey or the BLM will do what they say (with regards to being a “kinder, gentler agency”.
    I wasn’t born yesterday!

  4. And what about those “relatively small roundups” that the BLM has so graciously offered to assist the US Forest service with, again paid for with our tax dollars. Oh, and what if they accidentally fly over BLM land and roundup the wrong mustangs???
A horse is a horse of course.

Will the Humane Observers be “permitted” to document again, the Cattors in action ????
Lets send the BLM agents hearing aids—it seems like they just don’t hear us!

  5. Don’t believe one thing the BLM ever says. Their actions speak a lot louder than their words. Only believe it when and if you see it.

  6. As I read that BLM document the blm is joining up with other agencies so that they will get other agencies to pay for their continuing roundups. Nothing has changed except the hand that is paying our tax dollars for horrific roundups. Maybe its time to
stop paying taxes–”Taxation without representation is tyranny!”
Does anyone at the BLM represent the wild horses and burros????????????????????????

    • Have you ever heard of any branch of the government being this hardworking and relentless to accomplish something. The wheels of bureaucracy certainly do not roll slowly with the BLM. It seems as if they are on some sort of timeframe that they must have it done by …. ?

  7. woooooohoooooooooo WE DID IT!!!!!! YES IT FEELS GOOD BUT LET’S NOT STOP WITH THIS, WE NEED TO GET MORE FUNDING CUT AND BLM AND DOI EMPLOYEES IN JAIL AND FINED!!!!!!!!

GET UP THE PRESSURE HORSE LOVERS!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS OUR LAND AND OUR GOVERNMENT AND WE THE PEOPLE WILL ALWAYS WIN!
