Horse racing in Iran (images)

Horse racing is a popular pastime in the Iranian city of Gonbad-e Qābus in the Golestan province. It is in the north-eastern portion of the country, south of the Caspian Sea. Photos by Mohammad Javad Maktabi.

  1. Wow, those are beautiful pictures.

I have to say that I’m surprised at how stylish the jockeys look in a finish (although I’m not sure about the guy in the kayaking helmet taking a look around on the turn in!).

The bridle adornments are a nice touch too.

Would love to see more photos of horse racing in the less established racing nations – really interesting stuff!
