Wild Horse Rally: Don’t Take My Balls

I’m like you. I thought, what? Does this mean what I think this means? It does. In polite horse circles it is referred to as gelding. In BLM circles it means bloody castration. In particular, the bloody castration of young males.

PRESS RELEASE

Las Vegans rally in sympathy with the young stallions under 4 years of age that were painfully castrated last week by the BLM at the Fallon Nevada holding pens. If the BLM wins the federal lawsuit, they will castrate all the remaining mature stallions from the Calico roundup.

We will hang bloody balls from lariats and pass petitions asking President Obama to rein in the BLM (Bureau of Land Management), an outdated agency and friend of welfare cattle on taxpayers’ public land. Poster by Melissa Ohlson.

WHERE: RED ROCK CANYON SCENIC OVERLOOK ON HIGHWAY 159, from Las Vegas Strip, go west on Charleston, past the 215 Beltway and Red Rock Canyon Entrance Gates
WHEN:

SUNDAY APRIL 25, 2010 from NOON to 2pm
WHY: Castration wipes out the gene pool of Mustangs that have unique bloodlines adapted to their specific area.

See pictures below of some of the castrated horses, taken by Craig C. Downer last week.

BACKGROUND: In January 2010, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) conducted a deadly roundup of 1922 wild horses from the CALICO MOUNTAINS COMPLEX in northwestern Nevada, despite a federal lawsuit underway to stop the roundups and the recommendation of the federal judge that BLM should NOT conduct a roundup in the dead of winter. The Calico horses were not starving and had not damaged the public range, meanwhile the BLM sharply increased the number of private cattle allowed to graze at subsidized cost on the horses’ range. Stress and trauma lie behind the majority of the 86 wild horse deaths (to date) and 40 spontaneous abortions, a report issued by the American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign (AWHPC) concludes. AWHPC notes the expense of the Calico roundup which will cost taxpayers at least $1.3 million through April, and $1 million a year to warehouse the non-adoptable horses over their 20+ year lifespans. This costly policy, which relies on expensive roundups every four years, is pursued while cost-effective, on-the-range management strategies are ignored.

  1. The way the Congress and lawyers delay things, the court case will not be heard in any of these horse’s lives. Someone is lobbying against us and against these horses. It is time for us to lobby back in force. These are OUR horses. A national treasure is being destroyed by the morons we pay to protect them. I don’t know a lot about politics but this has got to stop at once. I like the post about sending the package to Obama. How about we send a video of what is going on with these horses to his wife and kids? They have the clout to get his attention.

  2. In BLM speak these are “colts” not “stallions.” Get it? Under 4, is a colt. They sorta agreed not to geld the stallions. I guess IDA should have stipulated “all males”!

    1. Yep, that’s the “legal” definition, courtesy of Bovier’s Law Dictionary, 1856, the same screwed up source that defines a “corporation” as an “artificial person”, and isn’t that a mess!

      http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Colt

Webster’s more modern definitions include one that refers to a colt as specific to thoroughbreds under 4 and standardbreds under 3, and another (I believe the most recent) that calls 4 an “arbitrarly designated age”.

Bovier’s is the reference for U.S. Constitutional Law, so I guess we’re stuck in 1856. WHAT A COUNTRY!

      1. Good grief, Linda. I suppose they have some loophole definition of “male” too so lawyers can get around that. I have decided that is what is wrong with our Government. When I started lobbying oh so very long ago, Congressmen, and the few women, came from all walks of life. Now it’s almost all lawyers on the Hill. Put two lawyers in a room and you will get three opinions, and they will never agree on any of them. They are by nature contentious and adversarial, and spend way too much time fighting over the tiniest detail so it takes forever to get anything done. Of course with Congress, just when you get close to achieving something, they say, sorry time’s up, you lose. We’ll have to start all over again next year. And so on it goes.

  3. This ought to be a real shocker. Hope the media is on hand. Maybe someone should send a gift-wrapped package of same to Obama and see if he has the BALLS to open it!
