Shame on KFGO, the Mighty 790 in Fargo ND. They may be #1 in news, but they are not #1 in research.
Take a look at some of the statements in a report on their website, blithely entitled, “Horse Slaughter.”
They interviewed a local horse dentist, and that’s about it, it seems.
Dr. Bowman says there is a need to look at the horse slaughter market again.
“We either end up with 90,000 of these things in a landfill someplace. Or if they were allowed to be slaughtered for consumption, they are shipped to Europe where they are eaten and someone gets some good out of them.”
Of course, reports show that there are just as many horses shipped across the border and slaughtered as were butchered in the U.S. before the plants were shut down down in 2007.
They do say that “slaughter is still an option in Canada or Mexico,” but it looks like Bowman is the source here too. He whines that it “doesn’t pay.”
“The market has dropped dramatically because of it, so now they’re not worth anything. So for a lot of people it isn’t even worth to transport them that far. They are worth 10 to 15 cents a pound now is all.”
Or how about the following statement? I don’t know what to say about this.
The Bureau of Land Mangement has become overrun by too many horses…the bulk of their budget goes to feeding unwanted wild horses…and unwanted domestic horses.

This Dr Bowman is a complete monster. This idiot should never be let near a horse and should have his license pulled. He shows just how little he truly cares at the very start by calling horses “things”. He must be getting a kick back from the BLM and slaughter industry. How can he live with himself?

Unless the local horse dentist is some sort of expert on wild horse management and on the slaughter industry…why would anyone interview him on this subject? And it is clear from his answers that he is no expert at all about anything…except, hopefully, dentristy. The slaughter of wild horses or any horse is not the answer to any management problems and revisiting the slaughter industry in the States is not going to make anything better for horses, except they won’t have to suffer being trucked for so many thousands of miles to die an appalling cruel and inhumane death in the slaughterhouses of Mexico and Canada. And if the Blm is spending such a huge part of its budget on feeding horses…whose fault is that?? If there were not more horses in pens than in the wild, if the roundups had not taken place…the horses would be looking after themselves and their families on the grazing land that is supposed to be theirs in the first place. Also, he does not seem to realize that the horsemeat market in Europe has changed radically since the introduction of regulations about drugs in the meat, such as ‘Bute” a commonly used drug in the horse world which has now been found to be bad for people to eat…The E.U. has put in place regulations concerning the background of horses for slaughter…and we here in Canada, thanks to MP Alex Atamenenko, are trying to ban the slaughter of horses here for just that reason. Whoever Dr. Bowman is, he is no expert, and the news station should have looked elsewhere for someone who is.

THIS DR BOWMAN BETTER GO BACK AND PULL OUT SOME MORE TEETH FOR HE CERTAINLY DOES NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT HE SAYS. HOWEVER, WITH THE BLM PUTTING THE WILD HORSES IN LONG TIME HOLDINGS IT IS GOING TO RESULT IN COMMENTS LIKE THIS FROM PEOPLE WHO DON’T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT. DOES HE EAT HORSE MEAT? HE PROBABLY DOES NOT CARE IF SOMEONE ELSE DOES AND DIES ITS NOT HIM. THIS REPORTER REALY PICK A GOOD ONE TO INTERVIEW IT CERTAINLY SHOWS WHAT SHE FEELS.

Totally disgusting, where are these peoples brains are they sitting on them or what????? Are they uninformed or just plain out and out Stupid, I am sorry I had to just say it that way, but My God , What is wrong with them ?????? Shame on them is not even a strong enough word for such out and out stupidity !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is an Outrage !!!! I am so humiliated that these people would even think like that………………I think they need to be B—-h Slapped repeatedly……………….. Wait maybe they are referring to the Kind folks over at BLM ????????????????????? on that I would agree…..Send them all to Europe maybe they could deal and understand them……………..
