SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A $10,000 reward is being posted in Utah for information about the slaughter of a woman’s horse on a ranch in western Salt Lake City.

Jennifer Carrillo tells the Salt Lake Tribune for a Monday report the butchered carcass of her American Saddlebred named Snap was found Nov. 3.

She says the animal had been shot in the head, and its legs, loins and hindquarters were removed.

Salt Lake County Animal Services Sgt. Zach Todd says it appears the killing was to get horse meat.

The Tribune reports the Humane Society of Utah, American Dog Rescue and individuals have put up $10,000 in reward money in the case.

Humane Society executive Gene Baierschmidt calls the killing a cruel and callous act.
