Mysterious stray equines might be up for auction

On Saturday, Rick Harmon woke up to find four horses and two mules in his front yard. He said the animals had been dumped there overnight.

“It was Saturday about 8 a.m. in the morning” said Harmon, who lives in northeast Dickson County near the Cheatham Dam. “The dogs started to bark, and I looked out the window and they were almost on my front porch. I have no idea how they got here.”

He said he didn’t think the animals seem to be abused.

“They are all well taken care of. Some of their manes are cut,” he said.

After Harmon called the Dickson County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy came out and scoured the neighborhood. Animal control deputy for Dickson County, Melvin Tidwell, also searched for the horses Monday.

“If nobody claims them, they will be sold or we’ll let a rescue group have them,” he said.
