Antelope wild horse roundup: Galloping cruelty (video)

Following @BLMNV on Twitter they tweet that this number or that number of wild horses have been rounded up “without incident”.

Define incident Bureau of Land Management.

I take it “incidents” do not include a wild stallion breaking his leg in order to escape, running till he can run no further then killed. Or the foal buzzed till he or she collapses, another later trampled in the trap.

Take a look at a day “without incident” in a brutal roundup of wild horses by the BLM at the Antelope Valley HMA conducted by its contractor Sun J whose pilots, might we say, are even more brutal than the Catoors. And it has only just begun.

  1. Doing anything illegal will cost dearly in terms of charges brought against advocates, money and the time it takes to settle cases in court. I agree that all the letters, phone calls, e-mails are ignored. The law suits brought by equine advocates should be advertised. The HSUS is still quite tepid in criticizing how the roundups are conducted. That won’t get any relief for our equines. We need to partner with major groups to get anywhere.

  2. With all the ’round-ups’ past & present where horses/burros/foals have been hurt then killed,or ones we never hear any more of, etc., the THOUSANDS of emails/ letters/ phone calls etc. by people who actually CARE, still NOTHING changes!!! So, IMO….the only way this is going to make the ‘front page’ is when someone (one of us) does something illegal!! No, not the way WE want to deal with this….BUT until a helicopter is shot out of the sky (sorta speak) nothing what we are doing is working from what I have seen??? Just saying….as it’s only just begun for this fall/winter.

  5. Send the video out to the world–get it to HSUS,ASPCA, IDA,NAS–all of them. Let’s name that stallion Private Ryan–we can’t save him–but we can use his wrongful death as another example of BLMs mis-management of the herds. More DNA gone –talk about viable herds–then wipe out the foundation stock. They are all so wrong-headed. I hope they aren’t breeding! Do I come across as angry…?

  6. Regular people, in other words, not just us horse lovers, should join with us in a class action lawsuit against the BLM, SunJ and all employees of both regarding tax payer dollars being spent by the billions for something (wild horse captures) that benefits NO ONE except for PRIVATE BUSINESS entities. All citizens should also be filing animal abuse and cruelty charges against SunJ as a company/independent contractor, and any and all wranglers individually who are caught on tape abusing the horses….if any one of us citizens did to those horses what SunJ and those wranglers do on a regular basis, our asses would be thrown in jail and charges would be filed.
Whatever county and state a capture is being performed in, the Sheriff’s office, the police, the county District Attorney and the Attorney General of the State should be inundated with emails, faxes and phone calls asking how to file formal complaints regarding animal abuse and cruelty……keep those offices busy, and the BLM will hear from those offices in Washington D.C. (where the BLM makes all their decisions) because of the extra work it will create.

    1. Laura, We need a sample letter. It’s a good idea to blitz the Atty.Genl and others you listed. Many would write their own letter based on facts from observers. Addresses are easy to get.

  7. THERE IS NO FEELINGS FOR THE HORSES/BURROS FROM THE CONTRACTORS BECAUSE THEY KNOW THESE HORSES ARE GOING TO SLAUGHTER. THEY LOOK AT THEM AS DESPOILABLE ANIMALS.

  8. I can’t watch the videos, text descriptions are horrific enough. We need to keep the pressure on BLM and the administration, so another round of calls will have to be made. Light a candle for our equines.

  9. I am disgusted with these horrifying roundups where stallions, mares and foals are beaten and destroyed. America has to continue to stand up to the very people that have brought so much destruction to these majestic animals.
