As part of March for Wild Horses, we ask you to help challenge the BLM on their Myths and Facts.
These Myths and Facts are on BLM’s website. As of this writing there are 14, and it appears they update it from time to time, most recently on March 7, 2013.
Let’s get started.
WHAT BLM SAY:
Myth #1: The BLM is selling or sending wild horses to slaughter.
Fact: This charge is absolutely false. The Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management care deeply about the well-being of wild horses, both on and off the range, and the BLM does not and has not sold or sent horses or burros to slaughter. Consequently, as the Government Accountability Office noted in a report issued in October 2008, the BLM is not in compliance with a December 2004 amendment (the so-called Burns Amendment to the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act) that directs the Bureau to sell excess horses or burros “without limitation” to any willing buyer.
WHAT YOU SAY
Set the record straight, and challenge their so-called facts.
Respond in comments here please.
If you have a lengthy answer, say from someone else’s website, please provide a statement or two (instead of pasting in the whole thing) with a link to where you got it, so we can give them credit for their work and make it easier for people to read all of the comments.
Thank you!
Tom Davis, Salazar’s neighbor and known killbuyer, has bought over 1700 wild horses from blm and can not account for their whereabouts. Freeze branded Mustangs have been photographed at feedlots and slaughterhouses. Numbers of horses in STH & LTH fluctuate by thousands and there is no accountability. Here’s a published investigation from last month: http://thiscantbehappening.net/node/1560
