Rep. Kurt Schrader (OR-5) and Rep. Gary Peters (MI-14) are circulating a Dear Colleague letter to their fellow members of the U.S. House of Representatives asking their support for the removal of the King Amendment from the 2013 Farm Bill.
The recently passed House version of the Farm Bill 2013 Farm Bill (pdf, 630 pp) contains the destructive King Amendment.
If left in, its language can be used to overturn critical State animal protection laws across the country, including those relating to horse slaughter, cruelty and abuse.
A Conference Committee is finalizing the Farm Bill right now.
Please make a short and respectful phone call to your Representative in the U.S. House.
You can say something like:
“Hello, I am a constituent. I am calling to ask [Rep. _______] to please oppose and help remove the King Amendment from the Farm Bill.
[Rep. _______] can help by signing onto the Schrader-Peters Dear Colleague letter asking for the removal of the King Amendment.”

Time is of the essence. That is why only calls will do. Thank you for making your calls right now.
