Trump and McConnell team up to prevent Rule that would virtually end horse soring

WASHINGTON, DC — Shortly before leaving the White House to attend his Inaugural Ball, Trump approved the following Memorandum:

The Memorandum for the Heads of Executive Departments and Agencies states:

Caslon Quote Left BlackThe President has asked me to communicate to each of you his plan for managing the Federal regulatory process at the outset of his Administration. In order to ensure that the President’s appointees or designees have the opportunity to review any new or pending regulations, I ask on behalf of the President that you immediately take the following steps:

The Memorandum continues in paragraph 2 with:

Caslon Quote Left Black2. With respect to regulations that have been sent to the OFR [Office of Federal Regulation] but not published in the Federal Register, immediately withdraw them from the OFR for review and approval as described in paragraph 1, subject to the exceptions described in paragraph 1. This withdrawal must be conducted consistent with OFR procedures. [emphasis added]

Mitch McConnell has been aiding and abetting the horse soring faction for decades. No doubt his hand is in this. According to our sources, McConnell made sure that the OFR was included in the Memorandum.

The Federal Regulation that would eradicate the use of “pads and chains” in Tennessee Walking Horse “Big Lick” competitions, eliminating the horrific animal cruelty that goes with it, is set to be published in The Federal Register on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

Clant Seay, of Citizens Campaign Against Big Lick Animal Cruelty (also known as Billy Go Boy), who has worked tirelessly on this issue states:

Caslon Quote Left BlackInside politics seem to be at play here. U. S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has received over $750,000.00 in “Big Lick” Animal Cruelty money since 1988. His wife, Elaine Chou, was chosen by President Trump to be Secretary of Transportation. Today, Senator McConnell offered the toast to President Trump at the Congressional dinner following his taking the Oath of Office.

It is Chou who has the wealth in the family and helped McConnell get re-elected which he needed. The amount of money McConnell threw at his re-election campaign was outrageous. In Kentucky?

And we know what McConnell really thinks of the man he was toasting. McConnell famously stated, “Trump doesn’t know a lot, but I’ll support him anyway,” during the election campaign.

The referenced Memorandum freezing the activities of regulatory agencies is not uncommon particularly when the Presidency has changed parties and has yet to form a cabinet. At the moment the Secretary of Agriculture chair is vacant.

Trump appointed former Georgia Governor Sonny Perdue (R-GA) as Secretary of Agriculture on January 18, 2017.

If he is approved, and there appears no reason for him not to be, Perdue will be making the decision concerning the removal of “pads and chains”.

In the meantime, according the Memorandum, the decision is in Trump’s hands.

We have already told you about Perdue. Perdue is pro horse slaughter and from what reports says he is insensitive to the welfare of farm animals.

Speaking of being pro slaughter, Mitch McConnell is the Senator who routinely puts a “hold” on federal bills banning horse slaughter in addition to tightening up federal laws to end horse soring and “Big Lick” animal cruelty so there is not a chance in hell any of this federal legislation will pass. According to Washington lawmakers, McConnell has spent the last six years running a “program of obstruction, delay, and non-compliance”, on the Hill.

This is why we keep preaching that we need to work at the State level, particularly if we are going to close the export of horses for slaughter loophole and prevent horse slaughter from ever returning to US soil. It has never been truer.

  1. For god’s sake Mr Trump, please support and stop the killing of our horses and destroying animals. We are killing this earth and everything on it.

    1. How many of these unwanted horses are you going to take of feed, house, vet care. The avg. cost is $2,350 a year per horse. So how many can we sign you up for. Or do you just want them to starve, go without med care and suffer until they die.

      1. The same could be said of the unwanted babies that the pro life people want to protect yet, I don’t see a single one of them opening their homes to take them in(that is a case of put up or shut up). Besides, there’s less inhumane ways to put down a horse.

  2. I find it appalling if not disgusting that it is so difficult to protect animals from abuse and slaughter. If your President has so little respect for animal welfare, then I hate to see how little respect he will have for American people. Now isnt the time for a major setback nor rubbing shoulders with the rich and elite to show off a power trip; the longer it takes for these horses to be protected many many more will die. The prospect of this happening makes me absolutely ill.

    1. Yes, Debbie, and the suffering that goes on day after day, month after month, and so forth, is incomprehensible. Humans will ultimately pay the price as history has shown.

  3. President Trump said he wants to drain the swamp. I seriously doubt he is well-informed about the effects of this action on the horses. I think if enough people would contact him and inform him of this and how the “establishment” in DC is benefitting against the will of the people who want the cruelty ended, we might be able to get a good result. Same thing with th Dept of Interier and BLM. If we can convince him that there is corruption in these agencies stemming from lobbyists in Washington he may be persuaded to take action and help save our wild horses and burros

    1. I seriously doubt Trump ( can bring myself to call him President ) cares anything about the environment or animal welfare. Doesn’t his son go big game hunting and caged hunts? God help us.

      1. Nothing is sacred when it comes to making money to people of this ilk. Everything and everyone, except themselves, are expendable. You can do both, protect lives and make a lot of money. Perhaps they are not nearly as smart as they think they are if they can’t figure this out. Most likely they just can’t be bothered because they don’t care.

    1. I had to laugh at your comment. Being in Kentucky it seems like he will never end. From what I understand he wanted to retire but his wife urged him to keep going. Or perhaps I have it wrong and it was the other way around. Either way Kentucky will benefit from his absence. He is always bragging how Kentucky needs him because of all the money he brings it. Are you kidding? Then why is it the one of the poorest States (actually a Commonwealth) in the “Union”?

  5. Any person who is insensitive to animal welfare is not fit for office, especially when his portfolio relates to non-human animals.

  6. Why is it every time something good gets done for the health and welfare of the animals, some dumb ass like McConnell screws it up and causes so much unnecessary pain and death to the animals “the people” want to spare. Trump said in the inaugural speech he is giving it back to the people. So if it is going to go back to the people then we the people want the soring and slaughter stopped. We want the exporting of our horses to slaughter to stop and we want the wild mustang to be left free. We the people have spoken.

      1. Cheeto also said it wouldn’t repeal the ACA until there was another plan ready to take its place, it also promised to get lobbyists and special interest groups out of Washington and look at its cabinet picks. Lobbyists and special interest groups, the lot of them. The only time it doesn’t lie is when it’s spewing its hate rhetoric.

  9. One correction: Mitch McConnell has routinely voted to prevent horse slaughter on appropriations votes and has a very solid record on that issue. It is terrible he won’t support an end to soring, but his record on slaughter is clear and unequivocal and we must recognize him for that.

    1. We appreciate your comment Nancy. I am not sure what his agenda in doing so would be but you can be certain there is one. McConnell has made it clear in Kentucky, where Vivian is working, that he does not think banning slaughter is good for the horse industry. She heard it several times at a Town Hall Meeting as he was glad handing people. No doubt it is a blind of some kind on his part as politicians often do.
