MEMORIAL DAY — Millions, yes millions, of horses have died in human wars. Their lives were taken, not given. We have written about horses on Memorial Day. Talked about one of the most famous U.S, war horses, the wonder mare Sgt. Reckless.
This year we thought we would pay a silent tribute in pictures.

Any of the horses or mules who served in the wars should be honored by all of the world’s participants in war. In reading historical books about WWI and WWII, many, many animals were treated horribly and then discarded or killed when they were no longer needed. It was a terrible time for all involved. After seeing the movie, “War Horse”, I was very upset at the disregard shown towards the caring of these animals during the war. Thank you for showing these pictures of these great horses. Thank you to all of them, they are appreciated.

Thank you for honouring these heroic war horses. My great grandfather was involved in selecting the horses for Australian soldiers in World War 1, he ensured that they were healthy and in good condition. When the war was over the government refused to bring the horses back and this caused much distress for the soldiers who loved and cared for their equine partners in war. The soldiers made the agonising decision to shoot their horses dead rather than leave them behind because of the inhumane treatment they would suffer for the remainder of their lives.

That’s wonderful. They fight to save our lives and mankind takes there’s. There’s no regard by some people, all they are is meat. Have to feel sorry for those people cause they see and value so little. Life for them must be very meaningless. We the ones who care, these horses there with us in our hearts and soul by our side with them because we love them for them for who they are and not because they are meat. How horrible man’s become when all they see is the pounds per dollar after they served us with all there heart, true to the end.

What an amazing pictorial.
It reminds us all of how much horses have contributed to social humankind.
It’s for this precise reason that we must protect our horses from industries that exploit, and harm them.
Industries like thoroughbred/quarter horse racing, rodeos, carriage horses, etc.
We owe our horses a much better life than being maimed and/or killed for profit.
Most importantly, we must protect them from the slaughterhouse floor.
Here’s a poem about all the war horses that fought for our freedom:
LOOK BACK AT OUR STRUGGLE FOR FREEDOM
TRACE OUR PRESENT DAY’S STRENGTH
TO IT’S SOURCE
AND YOU’LL FIND THAT THE PATHWAY TO GLORY
IS STREWN WITH THE BONES OF MANY HORSES

Have a great Memorial Day to all horse lovers, and horse owners!
