New documentary exonerating wild horses and burros

EDITED PRESS RELEASE

Tom Porter, Craig C. Downer

Just released is a new 24-minute video documentary featuring the many positive contributions that wild horses and burros make to ecosystems and effectively disproves many of the lies made by their biased enemies.

As an ecologist who cares about the future of the naturally living horses and burros, Craig Downer is fighting to protect them from elimination on the lands that are legally theirs according to the unanimously passed Wild Free Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971 (WFHBA).

These species are classified by biologists as Keystone Species that critically restoring and maintain native biodiversity, benefiting many diverse yet interrelated plants and animal.

Many people unfairly blame horses for water and forage scarcity, when in truth they take only a minor fraction of the forage and water resources on the public lands compared to that taken by privately owned cattle and sheep as well as the gargantuan mining and energy industries, among other nature exploiters.

Also it is important to recognize that these national heritage species are only being allocated a small fraction of forage, water and appropriate habitat even within their legal areas on BLM and US Forest Service lands. These are areas where they should be the principal resource recipients according to the true intent of the WFHBA.

  1. So happy to see someone is taking a sensible approach to this. The wild horses and burros are a natural part of of the nature scene, and of course they contribute to keeping wild grasses, etc. cleaned up. They are certainly not over populated with roundups, and other stupid, cruel happenings. The only over population I see are greedy land developers that want to get rid of everything and make another dollar at the expense of nature and it’s creatures. What happens to this planet when the whole thing looks like New York City or Los Angeles? Let’s please not find out!

  2. THE BLM IS THE MURDERER OF OUR “LIVING HERITAGE”. THE BLM HAS BEEN LINING THEIR POCKETS FROM THE KILLERS -MEAT MARKET BUMS. THE BLM AND THE USFS ARE CREATING FALSE PROBLEMS AND BLAMING THE WILD HERDS. EVERYONE WHO HAS BEEN INVOLVED SHOULD BE ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FELONYS-HURTING THE WILD HORSES IS A FEDERAL OFFENCE. THE BLM MUST BE RE-ORGANIZED WITH OUTSIDE BOARD MEMBERS-NO LOBBIESTS. WE THE PEOPLE SAY…LEAVE THE WILD HORSES AND BURROS ALONE !!!!!!!!

  3. Excellent video clearing up lies of elected officials & BLM& US Forest Service, etc.
There is no over population of federally protected wild horses & burro & they are grossly mismanaged…
We DEMAND CEASE and DESIST of round ups until public oversight hearings held & for 1000s of horses held in captivity be released to their lands with non lethal PCP injections to assist in control of herds until round ups stop…

  4. Leave it to our current, corrupt and self-interest-only policies to create a problem like this, which parallels all the others over the past 3+ years!

  5. Craig is spot on with this very informative piece. Please support America’s Heritage Horses from the mismanagement of the govt branches USFS and BLM. ( Bureau Of Land Management ) HSUS together with ASPCA and Return To Freedom have conspired to cause great harm with their ideology ,The Path Forward. Dangerous , unethical sterilization procedures that are not supported by the Veterinary Community, like Stallion castration, Mare Ovalectomies and Mare PZP darting are all extremely dangerous and life threatening to wild horses. Wild Horses are far from overpopulated, that is govt propaganda spewed by these agencies whose vested interests are on the side of land grab interests ie: Ranching of Cattle and Sheep, Fracking, Mining and Oil industries. The aforementioned have lobbyist and deep pockets in bed with govt. Land Grabs and corruption looking to rid the landscape of these Iconic Wild Horses. Taxpayers have to advocate and fight against this broken down, corrupt system that is hell bent on putting the Wild Horse Species on the Endangered Wildlife Species list.

    1. More cherry-picking by the overly emotional pro-FERAL horse gang. *Actual* Science shows that horses do not belong in some areas because those ecosystems did NOT co-evolve with them, but that they are appropriate in others. Also, if you want to re-wild extinct species (like horses in America), then you need to also reintroduce its predator. The BLM is a sketchy agency, but they are correct to remove horses from *some* areas.

      1. MR SIMPSON- You are right on 1 point, but so wrong on another. Horses were brought to this country by the Spaniards, they became feral once they were freed, escaped etc. the ignorant people who killed all the wolves, pumas, and bears they could find are the real problems. as far as the BLM goes-ANYONE WHO BELIEVES ANYTHING THAT AGENCY STATES NEEDS A SHRINK. THE BLM HAS SYSTEMATICALLY BEEN ROUNDING UP AND KILLING OUR LIVING HERITAGE FOR PROFIT. THEY ARE GETTING PAID PER POUND BY THE KILLERS. I find the actions of the BLM criminal and they all should be in a federal prison. I am not blinded by the “feral horse gang” as you put it. The BLM is a crooked part of a crooked administration- they must be disbanded and taken over by a group of intelligent, science based people who can regulate where the wild ones are , and re-locate if necessary. reinstitute the natural predators- nature will correct the situation. I have been a horse person for 60 years- I am not speaking from emotions-I am speaking from facts and suits against the BLM. RESEARCH THAT BUNCH OF BUMS- YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED BY WHAT YOU FIND. I, for one, will never stop fighting the COAL., OIL, GAS, AND 1% RANCHERS WHO SEEK total extinction of the wild horse herds and burros. they are a living piece of history who do not deserve persecution or being dropped from heliocopters for the amusement of the bums employed by the killers. Check it out for yourself-not just a google -go deeper.

      2. Eric Simpson – years ago morons sought to remove all major predators from Yellowstone because trophy hunters too stupid & lazy to get off ATVs & snowmobiles could not “find any elk, deer, etc.”. They blamed predators because predators were an easy scapegoat rather than looking at the real culprits, dimwitted “hunters” seeking easy marks. Same as how the officials in Alaska are too stupid & useless to do control bush fire burns (proven in the 50s through 70s to increase moose & deer populations) but blame the ready scapegoat, predators.

Now due to the pro-hunting agenda after major predators were removed the deer & elk populations so over exploded that they were literally starving to death. Only recently has Yellowstone righted itself without any stupid humans getting involved.

Wild horses & burros are the easy scapegoats being blamed at the desire of meat marketers & greedy cattlemen NOT by any real research just as how predators are blamed above.
As for wild horses, ACTUAL legitimate science has PROVEN that the N American ecosystem is capable of supporting horses because unlike cattle HORSES have existed in America since pre-historical times. There was a equine subspecies in America millennia ago. Until the Spanish arrived American soil had NEVER known a single domesticated species of bovine only bison & not a single domesticated species of sheep or goat. Horses belong running wild on American soil than any other domesticated farm animal.

        1. Hi James. I agree with you for the most part. The herd animals were always kept in balance by the wolves, Mountain lions and bears. MAN is the only “moron” who destroys all the predators, then expects prime game animals after a terrible winter or drought. PURE GENIUS!!!!. Wolves are a KEYSTONE SPECIES-they keep things in balance.!!! the wild horses and burros are our “history on the hoof”-we are charged with protecting them and making sure that there will always be the wild ones for our grandchildren to see and experience. Let’s see if there are en ough people left in this country who can really THINK AND REALIZE WE MUST PRESERVE OUR HERITAGE-NOT MOUNT IS ON A WALL , OR PUT IT IN DOG FOOD. Lets see what pans out !!!!!!!
