Earlier this year, Starbucks announced it is widening the scope of its plant-based options, announcing that the company plans to innovate its food and drink menu to further capitalize on the changing consumer trends towards meatless and dairy-free diets. The coffee chain took massive steps to accommodate plant-based eaters over the last year, but the company plans to renew and revamp these promises. During an investor earnings call this week, company executives brewed a slew of ideas that will soon come to fruition in locations nationwide. Starbucks’ CEO Kevin Johnson declared that the company has noticed the changing trends during the COVID-19 pandemic, and plans to listen to those consumer desires.
“If I were to say what is probably the most dominant shift in consumer behavior, [it] is this whole shift to plant-based [products],” Johnson said. “And that is a shift both in beverage and in food.”
Starbucks took its first plunge into plant-based options in 2016 when the company added almond milk to its menus. This move made it easy for coffee drinkers nationwide to order dairy-free specialty drinks, allowing Starbucks to appeal to consumers who cut milk from their diets. After the success of this outreach, the company experimented by including oat milk at 1,300 of its midwest locations, and customers loved it. The regional oat milk trial ended in popular success and soon all plant-based coffee drinkers can celebrate with oat milk lattes across all Starbucks locations. Via The Beet »
We took a poll at the Fund for Horses, who are predominantly Vegan, and they and the non-vegans are crazy about oat milk products. It is so rich and flavorful. And great for those who have issues large or small with nut-based products. Starbucks have fully embraced oat milk. The Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso is beyond compare in the deliciousness department. Look!

The chain is finally rolling out Oatly oat milk as an alternative milk option to shops nationwide, a move it teased at the end of last year. To celebrate, Starbucks will be offering a new drink made with oat milk that sounds like one of its most delicious creations yet. It’s called the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso and it’s made when Starbucks baristas shake blonde espresso, brown sugar, and cinnamon together, and then top it off with oat milk and ice. We’re suckers for drinks that are a little spicy, a little rich, and a little sweet, and this sounds like the perfect combo of the three. Oh, and a lot caffeinated. Love that too.
Starbucks will also be serving up the Honey Oatmilk Latte nationwide for the first time after it was available in just some locations last year.
Starbucks has another new drink called the Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso. It’s made with Starbucks Blonde espresso, cocoa, and notes of malt, all of which are shaken together and topped with almond milk and ice. I remain fully obsessed with the Cold Brew With Dark Cocoa Almond Foam so this new drink sounds like music to my ears!
