117th Congress (2021-2022)
On June 8, 2021, U.S. Reps. Troy Carter, D-LA, John Katko, R-NY and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-PA, introduced an amendment to H.R. 3684, the Investing in a New Vision for the Environment and Surface Transportation in America, or INVEST Act.
If successful, it will effectively ban the transport of horses destined for slaughter for human consumption across U.S. borders to Canada and Mexico, as well as across State lines.
The INVEST in America Act was introduced by Rep. Peter A. DeFazio, D-OR, on June 4, 2021 and referred to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. It was subsequently referred to the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials on June 7, 2021. The bill has two originating co-sponsors, Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D-DC-At Large, and Rep. Donald M. Payne, Jr., D-NJ.
H.R. 3684 is set for a House Committee Markup today, June 9, 2020, at 9:00 a.m. EST.
Praying that it will be successful.
