MARCH AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER — The top 10 countries with the highest horse meat export value are responsible for about 90% of the world’s total value in 1000’s of USD as shown in Table 6 and the accompanying bar chart.

This represents almost a half billion USD ($478,729,000).

The top 10 countries with the highest horse meat import value are responsible for about 96% of the world’s total value in 1000’s of USD as shown in Table 7 and the accompanying bar chart. This represents almost a half billion USD ($491,588,000), similar to the value of the global exports.

Top 10 exporters and importers of horse meat worldwide

MARCH AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER — The top 10 horse meat exporting countries in the world are responsible for about 85% of the world’s total as shown in Table 4 and the accompanying bar chart.

This represents 115,958 tonnes or roughly 256 million pounds. Of the horse meat produced around the globe this about 16% of the total indicating that the greater majority of horse meat produced is consumed within the country of origin.

The top 10 horse meat importing countries in the world are responsible for about 92% of the world’s total as shown in Table 5 and the accompanying bar chart.

This is equivalent to 115,958 tonnes or roughly 246 million pounds.

Top 10 horse meat producers and slaughterers of horses in the world

MARCH AGAINST HORSE SLAUGHTER — By far the largest producer of horse meat in the world is China, which slaughtered 1,598,600 head in 2013*, yielding a total of 191,832 tonnes of horse meat or 422, 917,166 lb. This represents approximately 26% of the global total.

The top 10 horse meat producing countries in the world comprise 77% of the world’s total as shown in Table 2 and the bar chart below.

Again, China tops the list of countries with the most number of horses slaughtered (1,598,600) representing approximately 34% of the total globally.
