Wild horses subjected to experimental sterilization procedures in wildlife refuge

Reno, NV (September 26, 2010)—Laura Leigh, Director of Herd Watch, a Cloud Foundation program, has been monitoring a hidden roundup occurring this week at the Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge—notorious for hiding their activities from the public.
Historically horses from Sheldon, in northwestern Nevada, have been extremely vulnerable to the slaughter pipeline and have been unaccounted for on many occasions. Herd Watch has learned that Sheldon horses have been subjected to experimental procedures such as vasectomies and hysterectomies done in the field so they still look like normal horses only they have been sterilized. Advocates are outraged. The roundup run by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) and Cattoor Livestock, is happening without any public notification or provisions for observation.
“I walked over a ridge and began to see horse bones,” explains Leslie Peeples, operating in Sheldon on a tip from Leigh, “The bone trail became more abundant and led me to a large pit that had been recently covered up near another one freshly dug up. I photographed what I observed there.”
Peeples continued onward to view more than 250 wild horses alive in a temporary holding facility out of the 400 intend to secretly gather.
“When I got back into my car I was chased from the area by the roundup contractor’s helicopter that came within 20-30 feet of my car,” Peeples states. “I was afraid for my life.”
On Friday, Sept 24th Leigh filed for injunctive relief in connection with her lawsuit, supported by Grass Roots Horse, in Reno federal district court. She asks for the cessation of all activities associated with the clandestine protocols surrounding wild horse roundups and asks for documentation to be made public about all facets of wild horse and burro management under the Department of Interior. Leigh also asks that all private facilities be open to the public, including long-term warehousing where public horses are currently stockpiled and off-limits to public view with their ultimate bulk sale receipts to alleged kill-buyers kept hidden.
As a result of the 2004 Burns Ammendment, BLM now has the legal right to partake in unlimited sales of wild horses to alleged kill-buyers as well as mass euthanasia.
The Sheldon incident and all of it’s details including photographs, experimental vasectomy and hysterectomy accounts, and statements have been added to Leigh’s motion in order to illustrate the extraordinary efforts made to hide roundup activities by privately contracted individuals paid for by tax dollars.
“This iron curtain of secrecy must end now,” states Leigh. “Without transparency, democracy fails.”

The saddest thing is…I do not find anything that the BLM does surprising anymore. Horrific, appalling, cruel, inhumane, disgusting and very, very sad, but not surprising. When will the torture and annihilation of wild horses and burros stop??? When will the government, the White House, stop the BLM?? How did they get so powerful that nothing can stop them?? Where are all the SPCAs and Humane societies in all this??? Where is the law??? The way these animals have been treated is surely an animal cruelty issue among other things…including, as I understand it, illegal according to the Wild and Free Roaming Act…How the Hell do we stop these people…who have no hearts, no compassion, no idea of what they are doing to an American icon and simply put, to a species doing no harm to anyone, an animal that cannot defend itself, and is harried, terrified, shot, injured, maimed and roped and corralled…family units pulled apart…it is beyond comprehension that a government agency is allowed to do this to any wildlife…much less one protected by Congress. You would almost think it was a Canadian problem…where we have wild horses treated like dirt too.

So now the pressure is up on the government to stop slaughtering our horse the freakin government has decided to start sterilization our Wild Mustangs instead. WILL THEY EVER STOP!! LEAVE OUR WILD HORSE (and domestic) HORSES ALONE YOU SAVAGES!
FOLKS DO NOT BELIEVE THE GOVERNMENT, THERE IS NO OVER POPULATION OR OVER GRAZING OF THE MUSTANGS OUT WEST! 58,000 est HORSES ON 32 MILLION ACRES OF LAND, THERE IS NO OVER POPULATION OF OVER GRAZE WITH THIS MUCH LAND AND SO FEW HORSES!
THAT IS 551 ACRES PER HORSE! HOW IS THERE AN OVER POPULATION AND OVER GRAZING PROBLEM!!!!!!!!
WE CAN STOP THIS, CALL YOUR CONGRESSIONAL MEMBERS AND TELL THEM TO SUPPORT AND PASS H.R. 503 AND S.B. 727 THIS WILL STOP ALL OF THIS!!!!!!
JUST REMEMBER……. GOD WILL BE RETURNING ON A HORSE! HELP US PROTECT HIS CHOSEN ANIMAL!

What is wrong with the US government? And we call this a role model for democracy and freedom of speech, blah, blah, blah?
Once they are finished the national symbol will be a lowly bug…like the cockroach, as opposed to the majestic horse or eagle. And the reason why is because cockroaches are more ubiquitous and obnoxious than those in Congress. Like begets like!

One more thing, BLM trades lands areas with the Park service and Fish and Wildlife so that the numbers always come out in favor of the BLM. Look at the federal registar notes and you can see everytime they swap land areas. Same wild horses are on the lands but when they flip flop the land designation the wild horses loose there protection.

Well her “tip” had to be precise. Shedlon Heart covers more than 250 square miles of northern territory of Nevada and parts of Oregon. You it would only make since that if I came up on a pen of wild horses and no one was there I would have popped the panel pins and let them escape, this would have been a severe statement for the Cattoors and BLM.
Sheldon wild horses are not protected by the whb act, there not on BLM land hma.
Dave Johnson a few years back tried to get me to take almost 2,500 wild horses. I advised him that they would need to have coggins at the minimum, his remarks ” don’t worry I can handle the paper work” “do you want these wild horses?” Again I advised him that in 2004 that all the paperwork has to be in order and again he replied,” I can take of the paper work”.
The email this was in has been given to my attorney so that a record would reflect that the BLM’s runs wild horses on to the Sheldon then they can do what they will with the wild horses because they do not fall under the whb act.
As far as Nevada Willis goes he’s starting to sound like Don Glenn.

OH MY GOD!!!! This is horrific! We must stop BLM. Yes they cut a deal with Mrs. Pickens, However they are continuing to kill and slaughter our Wild Horses without a compassionate or caring bone in thier bodies. What a travesty – they lie to everyone including the president and get away with it! We must film this a send it to the President – Now they will kill humans who get in thier way! They are out of control including the Contractor Catoor who has made millions and millions of dollars off of killing our Wild Stallions.
