STEPHANIE GARDNER reporting for the Sydney Herald writes:

“From the Golden Mile and the thin blue line to the green paddocks of Sydney’s south-west, controversy continues to follow Kim Hollingsworth.

“The former Kings Cross sex worker and student police officer, whose story was featured in Channel Nine’s Underbelly: The Golden Mile, made headlines last year for her work giving a new home to ex-racehorses.

“RSPCA NSW said today it had recently seized 11 horses she had been caring for in Sydney’s south-west.”

Ms Hollingsworth denies any wrongdoing, admitting some of the horses she rescued “looked awful”, but adds this is often the case when Standardbreds first come off the racetrack. It takes about a year, she says, for them to recover their full weight and health. Hollingsworth stated she also was treating one of the seized mares for a wound.

Further on in the article, Hollingsworth told the Sydney Herald‘s Gardner that “she had been the target of a hate campaign because she exposed a woman who was posing as a horse rescuer but was really selling the animals on.

There appears to be something missing here.

Although Hollingsworth did not say who or where the other horse rescuer was selling her horses on to, the story has a familiar ring to it. You cross into dangerous territory when you expose a horse trader or buyer for a slaughterhouse.

To add to the confusion, it also was reported that “members of the horse community protested outside the RSPCA at Yagoona” over the treatment of the horses in Hollingsworth’s care.
